The Youth represents the future in all spheres of leadership including the energy sector. This is why our ‘catch them young’ initiative will build and strengthen the capacity of young women and men in the region to contribute and participate actively in the energy discourse at national and regional levels. This will ensure that the youth in the region has a say in the way energy development is shaped in West Africa.
Our goal is that, through research and development of policy papers on topical issues in the energy sector, young people will contribute to informing decisions on energy development in their respective countries, and the region as a whole.
ECREEE, through a call for proposal process, that will be launched annually, will select proposals from research teams comprising of young women and men from academic institutions or youth organizations for grant support. Research areas will include, but not limited to, topics on investment, policy and regulatory frameworks and capacity building.
To ensure that the policy papers produced are relevant and that the proposed solutions are applied, the research topics will be based on recommendations from energy ministries in the Member States. The policy papers will be disseminated by ECREEE and research teams will have the opportunity to present their work through regional forums organized by ECREEE.
